About Us

Mel Sage

Mel is the Race Day Director and Chair of the race committee

Mel, having run the race once, decided her skills were better placed in the organization of the event that the actual running of it.  She makes the race day happen! She has the joys of coordinating everything from “have we the right Health and Safety” to “have we enough bacon butties for the BBQ”.

Melanie Codling

Melanie is the marketing and sponsorship guru for the race

Melanie is a mum of three and a part time runner. Having run the 10k last year she wanted to get more involved and is looking after the marketing for 2019. Any questions please contact her at:

Simon Perry

Simon looks after the key Registration to Results process

Simon manages the whole registration to results process, making sure that once runners have registered themselves on the day, that their numbers are recorded, start times noted, and that this all matches up to the critical finish timing process to give our runners their overall race time.

Simon Creek

Simon is our “HQ builder”, plus has created and tested the Half Marathon Route.

Simon marks out the race course on the school grounds, decides where the all-important bouncy castle will be placed, and makes sure that the vital BBQ and tea, coffee and cake supplies are there on the day.  He is also responsible for the expansion of the race in 2017 by creating and test-running the Half Marathon route, to give runners even more chance to see the lovely countryside! Simon will also be last runner for the 10k this year, making sure everyone gets home safely.

Hugh Gage

Hugh is the 1k Race co-ordinator

A keen trail runner and father of twins in the school, Hugh brings his passion for running and experience at similar events to the Committee. He is responsible for the smooth running of the 1k events (KS1 and KS2) on the day, including capturing the winning children as they cross the line before vanishing into the crowds of parents! Hugh has also volunteered to be last runner for the Half this year, making sure all runners get home safely and releasing marshalls from their duties as he passes.

John Livingston

Chief “Marshal Man”

Probably one of the most unenviable tasks of the event, persuading fellow parents, local residents and anyone he can nab to marshal the race is what John does brilliantly.

George Lawrence

George is our “Website Man”

Previously a pupil at the school, now in Year 11 in the Royal Grammar School in High Wycombe, George is taking the lead on ensuring our website is maintained and attractive for the 2020 race. Thanks George!

Rob Hayes and Andy Sage

Rob and Andy are our “Route Men”

Rob and Andy are responsible for making sure that both routes are clearly sign posted and set up for the races. They lead a party of keen gardeners in the days immediately before the race to ensure that the routes are clear and passable.  They take gates off their hinges on the day (and replace them afterwards) to ensure runners have as clear a route as possible, whilst not losing any local sheep or other animals...

Humphrey Grimmett

Humphrey is our “Online Entries Man”

Humphrey looks after collating the details of those who have entered the race online.

Heather Day

Heather is our Entries Co-ordination Secretary.

She makes sure that entries make it from the online entry form to the school hall on the day, any manual entries are also included, with race numbers attached and laid out for runners to pick up on the morning of the race.

Tiff Whillis

Tiff is our “Road Closure Man” for the 2017 race

Tiff organises the road closures with the local authorities, together with other essential behind the scenes tasks such as Risk Assessments and Health & Safety. He has been involved from the start of the Ridge off Roader.

The Ridge Off Roader Race Committee consists of parents of children of the school. We work closely with the Bledlow Ridge School Association to coordinate our efforts.

A mainly new team takes to the helm this year - preparing the 6th incarnation of the race.

The success of the event is most definitely a team effort.  Everyone provides their own time and energy for free and is passionate about making the 2019 event the best yet. Best for runners and best in terms of funds raised for the school.  If you would like to assist in the organisation of the event - please do get in touch, we would love to have you on board.

The 2020 Ridge Off Roader extended Race Committee consists of:

The Ridge Off Roader was the brain child of Ben Park, and his partner Fin Walker has been instrumental in its success.  They are assisting from the side lines this year but we are forever indebted to them for initiating this wonderful race in the beautiful Chilterns.

Finally the list above cannot possibly represent the massive team of parents, teachers and pupils which make the day a huge success. We thank each and every one of you.
